I am a smoker, and have been for decades. I am very angry at myself that I ever started.
Any of you that have looked into my particular syndrome know that breaking patterns is incredibly difficult. I struggle with this every day and feel incredible guilt with each cigarette. I'm not asking or expecting any sympathy, we all dig our own graves and build our own cairns...barring outside interference such as violent death. I say all of this in preface: Smoking in enclosed areas containing children IS child abuse. It is poisoning, with knowledge and intention. There is no reason that any person --given the wealth of knowledge available since the 70's-- should smoke in a home or vehicle that contains children, even if it only contains children some of the time. Yet another child that I have the misfortune (job?) of advocating for is in a critical treatment ward due to internal organ damage. The damage was caused by smoking. The most common defence that these child abusers claim is: "It's a legal product and I have the right to use it!!" So is bleach! If you force a child to ingest it, you will be prosecuted. So is perfume! " " So is (fill in the blank), " " I'm tired of people purposely harming children and hiding from justice on idiocy as a defence. This isn't a slippery slope. No one is going after sugar, carbs, cotton, leather, etc.. This is about a product that is nothing but a toxic poison to children. This is about the murder of children, and the lucky ones that live get away with a dramatically reduced health potential.
