The cement desert

Where people are living within a barren landscape

Struggling just to stay alive.

A dog eat dog environment.

 A world of despair.

Hopelessness breeding desperation.

Sadness aching within my soul.

In the darkness flicking candles glow.

It seems that within the extreme of poverty

The need to do good finds nourishment to grow.

Feed by the very need to return to the Creator.

 I listen to preachers scream.

Have you accepted Jesus Christ as your personal savior –

Now give ten percent of your money to the church,

I am the church.

 True representative of God.

The Father will bless you

I will forgive your sins then reward you with a place in heaven.

In heaven the sick will be healed.

You will live in perfect health.

Did I mention?

Virgins waiting for each man as he enters the gates of salvation.

For you young ladies

There will be young strong studs to wait on you

Filling your every desire.

Joy beyond compare.

The empty drumming goes on endlessly.

Wonder what the Creator Entity has to say

About all this drumming and grand standing..

Oh yeah wasn't there something about

Better to have a millstone tied around their neck

And be thrown in the sea

 Yeah something like that.

It is a difficult world for the minister.

Literally thrown between a rock and a hard place.

What is even sadder the schools that teach them

Can only teach dogma and doctrine.

I am left wondering what ever happened to spirituality?

Was it left laying on the side of the road

Like some discarded robe?
