Hey Lee! I remember London in the 80ies! (I'm getting old, I told this story before here.) It was the real world to me compared to sleepy Berlin. Still in the late 80ies I was stopped in the street with my black boyfriend and told to not hang around with him by two police men. Unimaginable then in Berlin, the black man could have been an American soldier who stands higher in the hierarchy than a German police man. And Hackney in the late 80ies was no playground for unaccompanied whites like me either. Brixton was already artsy by then. I heard the same happened to Hackney. How is the present situation over there? Where has the fear and the hatred moved? Into the realm of religious identification?
