Shaman, Granted it is difficult, not impossible though. One of the lesser aprciated 'things' about the golden rule is it's basis in selfishness. Yep that is correct, it is not a typo.
If I want to be able to live in a mannor of my choosing(as long as I attempt harm to none other with my choices, and said choices are within the scope of the law of the land) then I must accord every indivdual the same curtersy or be righfully accused of hypocracy. But the emphasis is 'I', if I want to live as 'I' will. So then I owe it to myself to rid myself of those who may cuase me harm in whatever mannor. That includes for me personaly my father. Our reletionship has always been strained, and indeedI choose to cut him from my life for a bloody long time. Now of course whilst not great, at least we can be in the same room as each other for an evening with me wanting to deck him or he me.
