You're wrong on this Allan, in the technical sense. Of course, you are
also right that corruption remains a big problem. RP has the right idea on
what our intent should be and we can't make Terminators (though we can make
bullets that target track). We have machines making sell and buy orders
and searching for 'sign' in world text etc.

But the question is more about our fears on this matter - do they come from
Terminator, some deep place in which we know we are pathetically
irrational, selfish and from which we would be shown up by a couple of
decent adding machines (this was Frank Soddy's statement in the 1920's on
banking). Are we just dead scared of change that involves getting rid of
the tyrants?

There are teachers and academics who believe that if only the unwashed paid
attention and learned the theory, praxis (good practice) would follow.
This is actually contemptible nonsense when one looks at teaching material
and the spread of human nature. We can 'train' machines and build in
learning capacity. We could make an honest money system now. Would it not
be better to program machines rather than humans - leaving us to develop
differently?

People have been scared of machines before - think Luddite (who had a
point). The coming machines do not threaten those of us on the end of a
spade handle, but the elite. What scares us about this?
