We are the living selves, the ahamkaras, and the Real Self is the basis of life itself, on realizing it there is no differentiation of I and you, mine and thine. But if we cherish the consciousness of "I AM " the lower self, it is applaudable because we are fragments of the Self, made in his image. Virtue matters a lot because just as laws of physics, biology, etc rule the world, laws of spirituality also rule us. What these laws might be I do not know but believe that kindness, generosity, etc. are some of them.
