Thanks for the background as it's helpful on many levels.

Please don't take my discussion as anything other than trying to investigate 
options. It's tough to sustain an OSS project over time, and no one wants to 
feel that scratching their OSS itch has morphed into a support jail sentence, 
or creosote bush to real life. That's a recipe for burn out and project 
stagnation.

Based upon the replies so far, for me, the issue is closed.

Any of my future efforts will focus on (a) submitting pull requests for Ruben's 
review, and/or (b) submit patches to the existing makefile's based upon my 
current post-processing of the mingw binary downloads to correct for what I 
consider usage problems.
