Could it be that x264 or FFmpeg is improperly using the pthread library and that is what is actually causing this issue?
If so, I can dig into the code of both and see how they use pthread. Also, I'm not sure if this issue presents itself in just x264 (not x264 in FFmpeg), but would it help if I compiled a debug version of x264 to test with? The threading issue might just be in x264, so having only x264 and not FFmepg might help. Any ideas are welcome.
