Hello Marcus,

Did you intend for individual nodes to do vertical handovers and movement with
MIPv6, or clusters?

We have performed several (successful) experiments with IPv6 communication over
IPv4 networks for pretty much the same reasons (IPv4 being everywhere, need to
overcome NATs, native IPv6 unavailable etc).

We had two alternative approaches: The first one was IPv6 as an overlay network
using 6to4 (access router becomes 6to4 border router, but nodes get IPv6 rtadv
from the access router to obtain v6 addresses automatically using stateless
autoconf).

The second approach used a VPN + Dynamic DNS approach (nodes are VPN clients
forming a tunnel to the home network and obtaining IPv6 rtadv from the home
network through the tunnel from the home router and updating their DNS records
to become reachable). Both worked using MIPL, but the second approach was
slightly limited to the nodes being only CN.

If reachability and IPv6 connectivity are your targets, both those approaches
were working solutions with obvious overhead/setup/performance differences. I
can provide some published conference & journal articles describing our
approaches if you're interested.

Cheers,
Bilhanan
