Did you take a look at the specification I drafted?
Here:
http://miragroupware.org/wiki/doku.php/development/blueprints/layers/logging_system
[Anand] Yes I did. I also read the ACCU article that was mentioned there. And I
think I kept chaining the references from there and found Log4cpp and Boost.Log.
I know it's not very detailed, and it's very much lacking in depth with regard
to implementation, but it summarises some of the key decisions that were made
when we initially discussed the logging system. Having said that, it is always
good to have a fresh perspective, so we'd be interested to hear why you think
Log4cpp or Boost.Log would be more suitable. :)
[Anand] Both of them provides what we need. Its open source and its already
there and we just have to customize it to our project so that it can used
easily. As per Boost.Log docs page
(http://boost-log.sourceforge.net/libs/log/doc/html/index.html), it looks like
it was reviewed and proposed to be part of the actual Boost libraries.
I haven't tried them yet. So, I was thinking of trying some samples with a
module say "WorkplaceFiles" in rev-220 of the trunk, discuss with the dev team
and then proceed ahead with the full adaptation for our project. What do you
guys think?
Alan, Adam and I have arranged a meeting at 00:00 UTC on Thursday 16th December
(please see Meeting Planner for translation to your timezone - it's in just
under five hours) in order to discuss the Message Center, which Adam would like
to work on. While this meeting will be focused on that task, I can't imagine it
taking too long to discuss that topic alone; perhaps we could discuss the
logging system too, if you are able to attend?
[Anand] Oh! today at 7pm US EST. I am sorry, I cannot make it. I promised my
daughter to take her to the play area. Is it possible to record the meeting and
post it here?! Actually I had this question when going over the code: How are
the strings to be translated are stored? Are we using anything from Qt or are
we
using any open source library like gettext? I saw only hard coded strings.
By the way, if anyone else would like to join today's specific meeting (as
opposed to the general meeting being planned separately for Sunday or Monday)
on
#mira, please do! The more the merrier. :)
Regards,
Max Bossino
