I'm not sure you need to compile the system from source. I upgraded to
the latest snapshot yesterday and then there were issues with some
packages i have installed related to the perl update but, i've updated
my packages again today and they all now appear to work properly. I know
there were problems with some perl modules. Those I have installed have
been recitfied, it seems - at least, I have noticed any problems so far
today.
