There is OpenJDK is open source: http://openjdk.java.net/projects/bsd-port/ To get companies interested to develop binaries for OpenBSD, that will require OpenBSD to be more complete platform for applications. In practice this means defined long term ABI stability. And if we are talking about desktop applications, this means also defined desktop environment and toolkit.
