I'm trying to build a new FFS on a internal IDE HDD connected to a
laptop through an IDE-to-USB case.
The device seems to be correctly detected (full dmesg in [1]):

But when I try to launch the newfs command, the following error message
is issued:

I really don't understand what's happening; I tried to build an ext2fs
in Linux on the same disk, and all is ok, so this shouldn't be an h/w
failure...
Any hints/feedback?
