No it wont.  For G5s you need to copy ofwboot and bsd.rd at the root of
a FAT partition on your USB key, enter the OpenFirmware prompt and type:

boot usb:,ofwboot bsd.rd

I doubt so, it's just an interrupt problem the hpb(4) driver introduced
recently is needed on such machines.
