Christian and Stuart, my Vaio (model and BIOS versions earlier in thread) does not have any BIOS setting for non-RAID mode. The Intel storage controller BIOS only allows the two 128 GB drives to be configured as a "RAID volume" or as "non-RAID disks". As per my original post, with CVS -current no disk is detected regardless of drive configuration (RAID or non-RAID mode).
