Just to drop a note for someone who might search for this topic in future. I was wrong from the start. Instead of looking for emulation and/or cross-compiling that is far beyond my reach, I should be simply following -current on octeon. I believe it should be possible to keep the main/only firewall router behind the ADSL modem/router working in bridge mode updated.
