Ok, yes, I know, I'm probably stupid for even trying to do it (I was
curious, sorry !)  but surely CARP should be able to handle this more
gracefully !

The following commands :

ifconfig lo1 192.168.2.2/24
ifconfig carp1 192.168.2.1/24 carpdev lo1 vhid 2


On OpenBSD 6.1 causes the below pretty much immediately after you hit
the enter key :
