As far as I know, OpenBSD only support flat /etc/master.passwd file or NIS for what you want to do. You _can_ authenticate passwords using Ldap, Kerberos,... but if you need to get user info (uid, gid, shell, gecos...) then I don't know any other way. nsswitch support would do what you want but it is not supported and I doubt it will ever make it into OpenBSD.
