With public mailing list archive, why do we even need a forum?

more than that: a web forum is the antipod of the openbsd philosophy
(at least the way I understand and love it).

OpenBSD provides simple tools you have to take charge but once you
learned the basics:

* you made your choices
* you understood the big picture
* you now know there is so much more opportunity if you dig further
so you choose your level of mastering

mailing lists let you chose your toolchain (MUA, indexing, ...)
and you have a local copy of the raw data.

* you want an easy path? use a webmail or thunderbird.
* you want mails to become a part of your workflow, not just
YA snowflake somewhere in a browser tab, take some time to
discover MUAs like mutt or mblaze. index if you want,
backup, add comments, put some copies in your project directory...
so many things you can do ...

so the fact that openBSD community is available via mailing lists is a
part of the experience.

Regards,

Good points made. I would also like to add that I'm a member of forums for some open source projects (ex. Home Assistant) and prefer the mailing lists.
