Also, if your clock is too far off it'll never sync. In syslog you'll see entries like "Adjusting time by 1000 secs", then "Adjusting time by 1002 secs", etc. It'll continue to creep farther off. I'm not sure where the point is, but if you get your clock within, say, 5 minutes then it will sync fine if everything else is set up properly.
