    This is not how things used to be for many years, and it does make a
difference if no_x11 flavors are being slowly phased out.

    Well, passing two options to configure when building GD qualify
as "minimal fuss" to me.  Do you need a committee to decide that?
Would the named committee reach a different conclusion after careful
deliberation?

    At this point, it's only a philosophical one.  I just want to make
an informed decision when choosing my OS and my hardware configuration,
and I think a definitive statement about that would be useful for other
people too.
