my reply to this thread has no references b/c most of the prior stuff is
irrelevant to the contents of this reply.

the reason nobody wants to accomodate liviu is that it takes WORK, namely other
people's valuable time that could be spent working on code that > 1 person is
agitating about. in all the time it took liviu to generate the heap of negative
karma bitchy replies that he has sent to ports@, he could have likely coded and
patched his system to work in the manner he wants and have avoided pissing off
so many people. by endlessly complaining "fix it! accomodate me, i'm important!"
liviu has demonstrated his opinion that the developer time it takes to prepare
things as he suggests is less valuable than his own (not to mention the time
wasted arguing with him). despite this, daniel has made a point to be nice and
give you a patch and you still won't STFU.

if you want something that other people aren't actively campaigning for, do it
yourself. i can't imagine liviu has gotten as far as he has in mathematics
without experiencing this phenomenon. liviu's argument makes sense in the
neighborhood of liviu's space-time, but it does not patch to our own
neighborhoods very well ;).

the net human energy and man hours wasted with liviu's complaining far exceeds
the time it would have taken to find what is needed from xbaseXY.tgz to make
such a setup work, i.e. for liviu to hammer this out himself, as he should have
after the first few posts. understanding the policies of the ports maintainers
is a good thing. putting people on the defensive when they are, IMO, doing a
great job, is a really poor way to get people to help you out.

a picking apart of my post based on minutae that seem relevant in liviu's local
frame is what i'm fully expecting. i feel stupid having spent the time i just
did writing this, another waste of human energy.
