"Best" depends on many things. ;) I follow stable on my production
boxes, but I don't update them continuously. I check errata, and only
update when I need. Often there are errata for programs I'm not using,
so why update? Install sources from CD first and the bandwidth hit isn't
so bad.

So that's what I do. Something else may work better for you.
