Can you mail me a test case offlist please? I am not familiar with
powerdot, I have always used the beamer class.

The version of TeXLive in 4.2 was not finished and not really intended
for use. I will try your test case on -current.

I don't want to get too bogged down in this because TeXLive 2008 is
out very soon and will replace this port.

Also worth trying (as a last resort, i doubt they will make any
difference) are my 3rd party texlive packages for 4.2 which I
backported from -current about 1 month ago:
