AFAIK it's the EFI (Intel Macs) which needs the resistor (as replacement for a monitor) to switch to the legacy BIOS mode (or so) and boot with a DOS partition. The native EFI boot with a HFS+ partition and Mac OS X doesn't need that. Open Firmware (PPC Macs) doesn't have such problems either. Tas.
