probably crappy hardware. at least, the mixer interface for ac97 codecs is all the same. I mean, all ac97 drivers use the same mixer code (dev/ic/ac97*). so, pretty unlikely the driver code is that buggy, unless everyone else is having problems and not reporting them. > I can work around
