^C into the shell from the installer, dmesg | grep 'not configured', copy any likely-looking lines (by hand if necessary). Also see http://www.openbsd.org/faq/faq4.html#getdmesg - the 'floppy disk' method will work for a USB drive, typically on device /dev/sd0i (or sd1i, etc) rather than /dev/fd0a.
