Your point about snapshots is well taken. The problem then becomes syntax changes between stable releases, but I'm not complaining. I've seen nothing but improvments being made to OpenSMTPD, and with the man page updates, I'm back in business with the latest snapshot.

Again, a remarkable project. Thanks!

Cheers,
Rob.

The documentation has not yet been updated, I'm working at it right now
as it's quite an invasive change to the man page. All of this will be
documented before next release.

Gilles,

Is there a repository of sample use cases (sic configuration
examples) for OpenSMTPD? I seem to recall earlier efforts to
collect some.

Well it's up to people on the list to share their configurations ;-)

In the interval that the man pages do not reflect the actual syntax,
and with the recent changes, I consider the OpenSMTPD software to be
broken, and this comes just as I need to replace an aging
postfix/clam/amavisd server.

Your expectations about snapshots are those of a stable release. You
should install 5.3.3 if you want stable code and accurate doc.

Snapshots are built from our development branch and contain code that
needs testing, that may be subject to changes and that may break. The
documentation is not accurate because we write it once the feature is
finished as it can evolve drastically between two or three snapshots.

I realize that a series of blog entries have described various
syntax changes over time, but these are not concise, nor are they up
to date, nor are they found in one place. If the man pages are out
of synch with the software, it makes things very difficult for new
users to adopt the opensmtpd mta.

The man pages on stable release are accurate.
They now also are on the latest snapshot.

Sorry to vent, but a concise document would be invaluable to the
widespread adoption of this remarkable software ... after all, I see
in your interview on BSD now that world domination is the goal 8-)
...

I don't have time to work on more than code + man pages, if people want
to help with a FAQ, pool of common configurations, they are encouraged
to do so.
