Not at the moment, and since the rework of the spatial index in v1.6.0 completely changed how this part of the code works, I cannot easily bring back the old behavior. I'll have to check what could be done to add a mode that emulates the old behavior to get similar write speed. (BTW, you're the second one to ask for such an option.
