Hi Mila, we are indeed working on an IGT component for MITK. We still have a lot of work to do before releasing it, though. A rough estimation for the initial release of MITK-IGT is ~March 2009.
Some of our planned features for MITK-IGT: * MITK-IGT support will be split into two components: MITK-Tracking and MITK-Navigation * MITK-Tracking will handle interface to tracking devices like NDI Polaris & Aurora, MicronTracker and others * We are working on support for some not-so-common tracking devices like the da Vinci telemanipulator, SensAble Phantom, 3DConnextion Space Navigator and maybe even the Wiimote. Some of them (like the Wiimote) will of course be more useful for testing and presentations than actual medical interventions. Right now, we have no plans for a mouse-tracker-simulator like the one in IGSTK, but that would be easy and straightforward to add. Not all of them will be available in the first release. * MITK-Tracking can be used stand-alone. Then you have a tracker object and some tool objects and are able to query them for current positions/orientations * MITK-Navigation builds on top of MITK-Tracking and provides a data pipeline architecture similar to the one of ITK * There will be filters for different topics like: * Connecting to any tracking device that is supported by MITK-Tracking * Synchronization of multiple tracking devices to compensate different latency periods * Coordinate transformations * Visualization filters, either connect polygon objects or the camera to tracking data or use special target-guidance visualizations * Augmented reality visualization * There will be (Qt) GUI widgets for each filter that can be used to let the user parameterize the filter Since we already work on our own native IGT support, we have no plans of porting Slicer:IGT to MITK. If you are willing to participate on MITK-IGT development, contact me off list.
