Hi Taylor,
thank you for reporting. Your assumption is correct, then since the ".nhdr" is
just a NRRD Image with detached header, both *.nrrd and *.nhdr files should be
shown together.
I have filed a bug into our bug-tracking system

Should you discover another issue, you can file them directly to the system.

Minor issue... When I restrict the visible files in the file open dialog of
ExtApp to "Nearly Raw Raster Data", it only shows .nrrd files. Shouldn't it
also show .nhdr files? I see the "NRRD Vector Images" option correctly shows
.nhdr files.
