Hi,

did I understand you right that ITK can read the file without problems? 
If so, maybe the file extension is just missing in the MITK File Open 
Dialog. MITK in principal supports all formats ITK is supporting because 
it uses all available ITK file readers under the hood. You can set the 
extension in the File Open dialog to "All Files" (or similar) and then 
try to load your data.
