Hi Holger,

the presets are stored in 
Modules/Core/resource/mitkLevelWindowPresets.xml [1]. They were 
collected from a clinical workstation here in Germany (with consent from 
the vendor). The xml-file used to me modifiable in an installed version 
as well but it is currently compiled into the binary so you can only 
change this permanently if you build the Workbench yourself. At runtime 
you can change the presets through the context menu, but this is 
unfortunately not persistent.

If any extension in that area would help your usecase you could help us 
by filing a bug or even providing a patch.
