Dear Johannes, The plugin org.mitk.gui.qt.ultrasound[1] allows you to display and update an ultrasound image in MITK. This is usually done via a frame grabber, which is controlled in the background using OpenCV. Alternatively, the data can be transferred using OpenIGTLink (e.g. from the Public software Library for UltraSound, PLUS), which is supported by the plugin org.mitk.gui.qt.ultrasound. Special devices that offer a research interface can also be integrated via software, but this is more complex.
The geometry of the ultrasound image can be adapted in MITK. For example, the plugin org.mitk.gui.qt.igt.app.ultrasoundtrackingnavigation uses location information from a tracking system in connection with ultrasound images. In principle, this should work similarly with IMUs. To control special hardware, it is always worth taking a closer look at PLUS. Using OpenIGTLink, data can be sent from PLUS to MITK for further processing. The two plugins mentioned org.mitk.gui.qt.ultrasound and org.mitk.gui.qt.igt.app.ultrasoundtrackingnavigation are not activated by default in the MITK release. To build them, they must be activated in Cmake in a MITK build. The best way to do this is to select MITK_BUILD_CONFIGURATION = mitkNavigationModules at superbuild level, then everything that is required (OpenIGTLink, OpenCV) will also be built.
