Question: are you running compiz, perhaps?
I have serious performance issues in mixxx when running compiz, but not with
my default window manager (kwin).
Setting the Interface -> Waveform Display to "Simple" helps if I recall
correctly.
Aside from the serious performance impact that compiz gives me, sometimes
everything starts acting weird and compiz/X.org start eating away all my CPU
when I start mixxx (with the Waveform Display in "Waveform" mode)
I'm not sure why it happens yet... I think it's something weird in the
NVidia drivers.
