Hi guys. My name is Matevž Jekovec and I'm a student of Faculty of Computer science in Ljubljana, Slovenia. I'm a manager and a lead developer of Canorus - a free music score editor (http://www.canorus.org). I also play, sing, conduct and compose in my spare time.
I was planning to attend GSoC this year and was looking for a music-oriented project. I came across mixxx before, but wasn't really interested in (I only dance and listen to music DJs produce - I don't know much about DJ-ing :) ). I looked at the selected organizations and I was glad your project was among them. I'm interested in Key Detection idea. I'd like to implement one of the PDAs (pitch determination algorithm) into mixxx. As far as I understand the problem, a DJ wouldn't only fit two pieces by matching the beat only but should also now be able to look at the key (score samples pitches?) and decide how and which piece to mix. A bit related maybe - I'm also doing Harmonia - some kind of harmony research work at our lab for artificial intelligence (also a plugin for Canorus) which takes a score and tries to determine a key, chords, find similarities among scores (themes) etc. So my work at mixxx could also be partly used in Harmonia maybe (eg. you'd sing a theme and it would find similarities in scores). What do you think? -Matevz ------------------------------------------------------------------------- This SF.net email is sponsored by: Microsoft Defy all challenges.
