To your point #2,  7.10 is from a year ago (its not LTS,
disssst-upgraaade).  Amazingly Mixxx 1.6.0 is also not available for
RedHat 6.0 either. :P

Don't use the uber-dynamic eq stuff, if your friend is on a laptop try
disabling cpu freq scaling...  Have a go with Jackd if you can get it
to run stable...  Try preloading your track once (batch detect in
trunk will go through 100 at a time) so that BPM detect and waveform
summary gen get cached to .mixxx_track.xml ...  This will help lower
the CPU+IO when actually trying to start playing a track.
