Hello,

Back in December, Kevin Kofler posted a patch to this list that allowed
PortAudio's ALSA backend to work without mmap. [1] This is significant
because many Linux distributions are moving to PulseAudio as a desktop
sound daemon, and PortAudio apps will not work out of the box for users
without this patch.

What is the status of this patch?

I just realized that Mixxx (and probably CLAM and stock Audacity) won't
open your soundcard if you're running PulseAudio, as with a fresh Ubuntu
install. Unfortunately, this cripples our applications for many of our
non-technical users.

Thanks,
Albert
