Hey Peter,
If you don't downgrade portaudio, you will see freezes similar to what you
are seeing. The reason we ask that you downgrade portaudio is because of a
bug that was committed to their tree which made it into the Ubuntu
repositories that causes these sort of lockups. Could you please downgrade
portaudio and see if you can reproduce the issue ?
