Hello, I apologize if I have sent this message more than once; I wasn't sure what was the best adress to send to...
I'm a third year student in Computer Engineering with a minor in Music Science and Technology at McGill University, and I'm applying for the Google Summer of Code Program this upcoming summer. I've used mixxx for about a month, and also I use virtual dj and traktor. I really like mixxx, and I would love to be a part of your project! I read your idea list that was posted on the Gsoc website, and I was very pleased to see the part on synchronization improvements; it sounds very interesting. I found that the sync function works well on some songs with lots of dynamics, but some of the newer kind of electronic music is really compressed, and the sync function wasn't really working very well on them. I have lots of experience programming (3 years) as well as signal processing, which I believe would be useful for this project. I haven't seen the code for the sync function, but I am sure that it requires some kind of filtering of the song, and then analyzing separate bands. Do you intend to have a student modify the sync function, or just implement the active checking of the bpms? I would love to have a go at tweaking the signal processing in the sync function. As well, I found that the markers don't line up perfectly on the snare/bass drum/ clap (the on beats). I would like to fix this as well. I like the master clock idea too. Thanks! I look forward to hearing from you, Rob Klein ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Enable your software for Intel(R) Active Management Technology to meet the growing manageability and security demands of your customers.
