Was it HID-level protocol or raw USB like WireShark, i.e. would it cover all
controllers incl. multitouch? I don't have much USB experience other than
interfacing between a wireless RumblePad and VideoLan which I
reverse-engineered from eyeballing hexdump (real science).

Ok let me expand on what I mean by "has access to hardware". I'm thinking
mostly of expensive club gear with little/no dual-use for audio production;
it's bolted in some DJ cabin and unlikely to be found in a recording studio.
The club owner/manager certainly won't give a crap about Mixxx but maybe a
kinder soul walking through does... an opening DJ, barman, janitor, maybe a
big-name DJ friend you can ask for a few non-disruptive minutes. Don't know how
realistic that scenario is in general but in my case getting access to a pair
of CDJ-1000s when they just came out in order to test my software was all but
impossible, asking a club owner for a favour would have nuked my already
dubious "hotshot DJ" facade.

Mixxx adoption & hardware support seems a catch-22; minimizing physical device
access time could help. Or maybe it's too convoluted, dunno.

cheers,
