Also, layers could have custom loading and unloading functions. As an example use case, in my Electrix Tweaker mapping, MIDI messages have to be sent to toggle the encoders between absolute EQ mode and relative mode with scripted control of the LED rings for loop mode (see https://github.com/mixxxdj/mixxx/blob/master/res/controllers/Electrix-Tweaker-scripts.js#L381 ).
