Hi Tuukka, we normally use Ubuntu as reference which package version we should support and which not.
Our build system runs on Ubuntu 14.4 (Trusty) Mixxx has dropped Ubuntu 12.4 (Precise) support due to the introduction of c++11. So it would be nice, If we continue to support Trusty. Unfortunately the switch back to ffmpeg happens after Trusty. In Trusty there is: libav 6:9.18-0ubuntu0.14.04.1 with libavcodec54 54.35.0 So it looks like you can remove some of the #ifdefs, if they are itching.
