One thing I've begun to really notice is that large areas of black show the noise the worst - almost like the game of "Life" moving across the screen sometimes. Analog tape formats benefit a _lot_ from the use of the denoiser. For other sources I've found that using "yuvmedianfilter -t 6" to be quite effective and not overly instrusive (leave the radius at '-r 2' unless you're really really patient ;)).
