Sorry if this is offtopic... So far, i've had great success with generating all sorts of MPEG stuff with mjpegtools. The software works fine. Now, if i try to preview the results, there's a small problem. I can preview it on my computer; it should be fairly conclusive, because i have a good monitor (Sony display). However, i'd like to do a preview on a TV too, since a lot of the material i create will be watched on TV. Again, my TV is fairly good (a recent Sony Wega) which should make previewing quite conclusive. But... The TV output on my system is provided by a GeForce2; i bought it in the days when GeForce3 was the big hit, so it was relatively cheap. It has composite and S-Video connectors, and both have the same problems: - the level of black is too high, therefore the images are washed out; i can compensate for that by turning the brightness down on the TV, but the luma curve looks strange, and i break my "perfect" settings - the actual image is noticeably smaller than the active area; besides leaving a black border unused, it's messing up the matching between the scanlines in an interlaced material and the scanlines on the TV; therefore, the 480i material looks really weird on the TV.
My question is: What do you guys recommend as a TV out device for a Linux computer? The requirements as i can think of right now: - drivers available for free (or coming with the device) but anyway it must not have weird requirements regarding the kernel etc. (a la nVidia) - either work in parallel with an existing VGA-output video card, or be a VGA-output card itself (besides the TV-out), so i can use the TV and the monitor at the same time - not too expensive :-) - the TV-out must be one of these: YPbPr, S-Video, composite - must not have the aforementioned problems I guess some sort of graphics card should do, but so far i didn't find any with a good TV-out. -- Florin Andrei http://florin.myip.org/ ------------------------------------------------------- This SF.net email is sponsored by: SlickEdit Inc.
