I have the tiger MPX board but use zoran cards. At least in my case it
seem that the 2.6.0 test4 kernel workes better with the board and the
CPU's disks. I have had less framedrops in my first test. But that can
also be wrong (=more tests to do). 
I use a Adaptec 29160 Ultra160 (64Bit PCI) with works well.

Have you tried recording to /dev/null ? With that you should not need to
care about the disk and Disk Controller. The DDYS (10k rpm if I remeber
correct) disk should be able to handle the bandwith very easy.
