I had the same problem, including unavailability of the -U option (see my post in May or June), and have the 1.8.0 livna release for Fedora-3. Bernhard suggested to update to the latest. I'm still in the process of compiling 1.9.0rc because of all the dependencies and Fedora-3 intricacies. I'll report when I succeeded.
