Well, I thought I'd answer my own dumb questions, now that I've gone
out and fixed my car tonight. (gotta love garages, even though it's
only in the 40's here)

Sort of, but it turned out to be my own fault. A few months back I removed
the driver door panel to readjust my power window, as it was grabbing.
When I put everything back together, I didn't push the speaker wiring
harness back in far enough. You really have to push it hard before it
snaps all the way down. Anyway, that brought full sound back, and also
eliminated some noise and crackles I'd been experiencing lately (go figure).

Yes, you need to remove the door panel to pull the aktiv unit out.
There's 5 screws on the back of the panel that hold in the map
pocket/aktiv assembly. The door panel itself is pretty easy to get off,
and the bentley goes over how to.

Same kinda deal as the speakers. I just pulled the control unit wiring out,
sprayed it with a little electrical contact cleaner and plugged and unplugged
it a few times. Started working again.

Back to your regularly scheduled GTi/Mopar thread.
