> Does anyone have any tips on changing a starter motor on and 16v golf?

Be sure to support the engine, since the front starter motor bolt
also secures the engine to the front motor mount. If you use a
jackstand (the easiest way), stick a flat piece of wood between
it and the oilpan to spread the load evenly. Otherwise you risk
putting a dent or hole in the pan (losing your oil on the freeway
would be a bad thing).
Also, be sure to get a motor rebuilt by Bosch, and use a new
starter bushing in the transmission case (the Bosch motors should
come with one).
