I wanted to share with everyone how I fixed my problem with my car I asked
about earlier this week. I will re-cap for anyone interested:

1. The car is a CIS-E 16v engine
2. It started bogging after the engine was warmed up.
3. When it starts getting warm, the bogging gets worse.
4. First, it's at the 6000-6500 range, then expands to cover the entire rev
range.
5. Very small amounts of throttle do not affect it (no bogging)
6. At times, the bogging will go away and the engine will operate normally...
this is not very often and does not last long.
7. I opened up the distributor cap and the connections were all carboned up.
I cleaned them but it did not help.
8. I put a new fuel filter in and it did not help. This helped last summer
when I was having a hesitation problem.

Okay, so the filter, cap, and rotor were not the problem. I had my German car
mechanic friend drive it and he said it felt like an ignition problem and to
check out the spark plugs... maybe it's a cracked plug or something like that.
Well, I took them out and they were very worn. In fact the center electrode
was triangular shaped rather than round like they should be. Also, the fourth
one appeared to be wet but didn't really smell like gas... maybe just a little
bit. So, anyways, I went to AL's auto and they didn't sell the triple
electrode Bosch but had NGK's
in stock (which are stock in a GTi VR6). My friend works there so they only
cost me a buck fifty each anyways. So I took all the plugs back out, put
dielectric grease on the connections, reinstalled the plugs and wires, and took
it for a test drive... AMAZING! It is now running awesome. So what I think
happened was that the plugs were all a bit worn and the fourth one looked plain
nasty so I guess it was probably somehow defective. Even the flat spot I was
having from 6000-6500 is barely noticeable now. So go out there and check your
plugs everyone!
Later,
Clayton
